It's never actually been proven that Pokemon do lay eggs. It seems logical, but it doesn't explain why some Pokemon have no evolutionary lines and hatch as adults, the most perplexing example of such being Kangaskhan, which will already have a "baby" in its pouch immediately after hatching.
Of course, there are alternative theories. . . .

I don't know, this might be canon. Both Henry and Deva have Kangaskhans, and they both refer to them as sisters instead of mother and daughter. And we also know that Deva's colleague, Verity, has experience with Yoshis. So you never know, there might actually be some truth to this. :p
