In which case a large-caliber autoloading cannon might be better if this is supposed to spend most of its life engaging ground targets...read up on the use of gatling guns by ground vehicles. While an A-10 can just fly away when it runs out of ammo, stuff on the ground isn't quite as lucky.
being almost as large as an M1, it carries way more rounds than a standard A10, almost twice that. Thanks to it's new armor that is even more resistant than laminant armor at 1/3 the thickness, most of the hull space contains the other necessities, leaving plenty of ammunition space in the core of the tank
Um, the A-10's ammunition drum is pretty big, and you can't forget the size of the linkless feed system. Even if you're dialing down the ROF when engaging ground targets with the autocannon, it poses a problem. Ammunition's only going to go in the turret bustle, since that keeps the crew from getting killed when a round cooks off.
