I finally got this the way I've always seen it. I'm so happy with how it came out.
This is the Xinaran Racial Emblem. Much like what one would use the the Rebel Alliance, or Federation Logo for. It's represents their race on banners and other objects.
Much of their culture is based around hex patterns and designs. That is reflected in their technology too, from how armor plating or shielding interlocks.
