Polvere Moths are a species of moth-humanoids who live in space!
Their wings produce something that we call 'cosmic dust' or space dust. Thanks to this, they are easily able to exist both in space, and planet-side! Many find their own little niche to occupy based on their favorite things. Some prefer to stay in deep space, others prefer to stay closer to planets and some would rather stay among the stars.
Loss of their cosmic dust disables them from flying and if they lose too much, they could possibly die.
Polvere Moths, thanks to their cosmic dust, don't need any type of apparatus to breathe in space or on most inhabitable planets. Often times they will give up their life of 'dusting' to take on other jobs as well, wanting to experience what life is like on the planets they pass by! This has sort of given them a cosmic drifter or gypsy like nature.
Polvere Moths are born from Nova Stars; when a star evolves into a red giant and leaves behind a remnant, that remnant, also known as a White Dwarf goes into rapid, uncontrollable fusion. The result is an explosion! Though the explosions are big and often 'violent', the material that comes from a White Dwarf going into a nova gives birth to these Polvere Moths. Because White Dwarf stars honestly do not produce much material when going into a nova, not many are born from the same star. White Dwarfs however, can produce multiple Novae over time so it is possible to have 'siblings' born from the same star! After too many times, the star will go into a Super Nova and no more Polvere Moths can be born from that particular star.
Rarely, A Super Nova can give birth to Polvere Moth's. These beings are considered 'rare' and usually have mutations you wouldn't see in your average Polvere Moth.
“Coming of age” depends greatly upon the nova type that Polvere are born from. White Dwarf Nova's come of age quicker than a Red Dwarf Nova.
To this date no Black Dwarf Nova has been discovered.
A few legendary / mythic / mutations include but aren't limited to;
- Extra puffs on any part of the body.
- Lack of puffs where normal Polvere would have them.
- A mane of soft fur around the neck or any other part of the body.
-No wings on the feet / ankles.
