[i]There were days when being surrounded by fellow Shift spirits was, in and of itself, incredibly lonely. It was not caused by lacking conversation or boring personalities, but by the relentless thought that they only existed in this realm because they had died sometime in the past. Even if no one knew the exact circumstances behind their leaving the mortal coil, it was common knowledge that they had to have done so to arrive in the Shift to begin with.
Thus when the thought plagued its mind and would not let go, it would move from the Shift and to the Ereworld, where no spirits could bother it without Aoi knowing of their arrival.
Its favorite spot to lounge was typically an underwater cavern, but today the distance felt insurmountable. Instead it took to aimlessly wandering the lands of the Ereworld when it suddenly came across what appeared to be a dead tree. The plant was massive and had grown incredibly tall, branches curling in ways that seemed unnatural. Even its location was strange, surrounded by a vast, open field with waving emerald grass.
Aoi was immediately intrigued.
Clawing its way up the roots and toward the base, it discovered a small niche that looked as though it once cradled a sleeping being. Aoi glanced over its shoulder and briefly searched the surrounding space before calmly sliding in. Curling in on itself, it nestled against the warm wood and began to dream.</i>

A beautiful rendering of Aoi by the amazing Alphametics on FlightRising! I could not be happier with the outcome of this piece. The fact they were able to capture so much in one image floors me, as well as the unique spin they put on the posing I requested. Thank you so much for this gorgeous piece!
