Just thought I'd post a little update on the AE86 project as its been a while since my last post!
HUGE HUGE HUGE thanks to Slashmetallifox for putting in all the labor and wrench time to upgrade and repair the vehicle. Seriously dude, I owe you like a small to medium sized planet, or a really nice moon!
Here is a short list of this phase of updates.
Complete set of Prothane urethane bushings
T3 roll center adjusts
New pads, rotors all around
new rear calipers
New moog/ mevotech inner and outer tie rods + ball joints.
New steering rack boots
re-greased and tightened the steering rack.
Not much to say other than HOLY CRAP massive difference XD. Car i so tight now its stunning. I knew the old parts were rubbish but you don't really appreciate how bad they are until they are replaced!
A huge thanks once again to you Slash, you rock!

Trans-formative would barely describe the experience. I just got a chance to push the car a bit this afternoon and.... I think I might need some special alone time now! The original bushings were shredded in places so it made a massive difference. I think you will be quite happy once you get all the bushings installed in your car! What brand of bushings did you get btw? I bought Prothane. they are really well made but I've been told they are stiffer than other brands like Energy. I would have honestly gone with a little softer bushing but $130 for a complete Prothane kit is hard to argue! XD
Not on this vehicle. I opted to do a ground up rebuild on the stock factory 4age 16v bluetop. I personally love the small high revving nature of the 4ag engine. It also suites the car well. More power is nice but a larger power plant brings with it weight and balancing issues. it would also pretty handily shred the factory transmission and rear end so a lot of fabrication would be involved. If California ever allows (by some miracle) these cars to become smog exempt, I'd consider doing a 4age 20v blacktop or possibly a 7age 20v frankenmotor if i was feeling particularly up for a challenge!
Haha! its the USDM Vin AE88-AE86. This makes me happy as RHD+ drivethrough windows = suck! ^^ It took me about 2 years but I was finally able to scrounge up all the front and rear JDM bumpers+accessories so at least it looks as it should. Also ditching the ralph-nader 80's bumpers removed about 50+ pounds from the car!
