I have often compared my memory system to a chalkboard.
There is a little person up there, erasing old memories and writing in new ones. But, being a chalkboard, it gets terribly dusty in there, and from time to time she sneezes, her eraser skidding wildly across the board with the force of the sneeze, erasing everything in its path.
In a frantic attempt to cover it up, she tried desperately to fill in the erased sections.
