Okay, so here we have one of the 'sub' projects for my Yavapai 4-6-0. Sadly the original pilot was badly damaged during shipping, but that's okay. I would have hacked it off anyway! XD
I like my locomotives to have working couplers at both ends and I wanted a pilot that not only could accomodate that, but also retain that Old West sort of look. I did try a first attempt... but it didn't go so well. So this one should end up better. It's not much, but perhaps one can get a bit of an idea as to what the finished result will look like.
There's also a lot that needs to be done with the front of this locomotive. I need to finish modifying the new headlight bracket for the new headlight. The bracket can be seen in the lower left of the photo. And the headlight to the lower right. I'd like to bore out the marker lamps so I can add small bulbs or LEDs so that they are "working" marker lamps. I need to replace ALL of the boiler piping and feed water lines, check valves, air pump, ect... I also want to scratch build a new cab for the engine. It would have the same profile, but would be built a bit shorter. the current cab is nice, but it's BIG length wise. I feel a shorter cab would make the engine 'feel' longer and look more like a fast passenger engine. Another change I'm seriously considering is completely removing the Belpaire style firebox and making it a strait boiler
