"What are you looking at?" Paldan heard Lillias ask.
Looking up from the frame in his hands, he gave his wife a smile before turning back to the image. "Oh, just an old happy memory," he said. The image within the frame shimmered in response to his touch, a sign that the memory-capture magic still worked within it. "I'm sure I've brought up that night at the resort plenty by now, huh?"
Feeling the bed shift beneath him and an arm wrap around him, he leaned into her just as her own head rested against him. "A few times... but I like how you remember it."
Paldan let out a soft chuckle. "Well, I remember hearing that slow music begin... and the surprised look you gave me when I offered you my hand."
"It was pleasant surprise," she mumbled, leaning in to kiss his cheek as the memory began to play within the frame as he told it.
"Thank goodness it was, considering how nervous I felt at the time," he said, a visible blush forming on memory-Paldan's face. "Didn't help that the dress code was spa-robes. I don't think there was a time when I felt more vulnerable in front of you. We'd been dating for so long, but everything else up to that point had been so uncertain..."
"but... then the band reached the melody..." Lillias said, softly interrupting him. Like that, the music began to play from the frame, fitting that of which his wife spoke.
"... and it all just melted away," he confirmed. "In that moment, there might as well have been no one else in that ballroom. The band, the other guests, the rest of the pantheon, all just gone. I would have thought I'd shifted to my liquid form, and you with me, with how flawless each step felt. Just the sensation of your arms around me..."
"And yours around me..." The two trailed off as they witnessed their younger selves move about the dance floor, half-naked but completely at ease; just as they felt now. After a moment or two, however, Paldan felt Lillias turn her head slightly before she spoke in an amused tone. "Funny, I don't remember you ever changing to your solid form during our dance."
At that, Paldan turned to her and grinned. "Must be hyperbole, for how safe and secure you made me feel in that moment," leaning in, he felt his lips meet hers briefly before he added "Or how you've made me feel that way ever since."
Happy February 2016 everyone!
I know it's a few days after the 14th, but since I had this image commissioned in honor of that day, I just had to post it!
It is my sincerest hope that, whether you're in a relationship or single, this last Valentine's day brought you some moments of happiness and encouraged you to spend some time with the people you love; be they friends, family or whoever you chose to share it with. Of course, like my posting of this image, you don't need a holiday to enjoy such moments either. :)
