So when you fight Toriel in Undertale, you can actually die if you’re determined enough to do it purposefully. When you do, there’s a split second where Toriel looks horrified for what she’s done and, well, a doodle came out of it.
Can you imagine how she felt? Attacking the child that just wanted to go home and causing their death, accident or no? I wonder if she’d start thinking of herself as no better than Asgore.

It's an interesting situation between Toriel and Asgore. Right at the beginning of the game there's a plaque saying "Only the fearless may proceed. Brave ones, foolish ones. Both walk not the middle road." In Toriel's boss music, "Heartache", you can tell she's determined to keep the path she's set on. She's definitely decided on her personal conviction to of peace and ultimately feels like her life served purpose regardless of what you do. Even if you stab her in the back, she finds peace in knowing you'll be safe. At the end of the game, you meet Asgore who wants to be merciful but allows himself to kill humans in order to give "hope" to the Underground, despite just hoping the humans don't come to him because destroying the barrier means he has to continue fighting meaninglessly. His song "Bergentrückung" is just as indecisive as he is, and ultimately his habit of passing decisions on to others backfires on him no matter which path you took.
