this is the first page of a comic book I am currently drawing for an old friend and former class mate of mine who becomes 30 years this year. Silly me thought he would have his 30th birthday next year but I was wrong. I won´t make it in time but the will counts^^

Yes indeed there is a slavic version of this name too which means exactly what you said.
The Germanic version only goes with the valorous term, but has the additional meaning of dragon slayer (we were taught in school that the germanic ending "ir" expressing "doing something", many german second names are like that like Müller Schneider or Schuster, though the "ir" changed to "er")
Eduardo and Edward are said to have long tradition in Germanic name culture and date back even into the celtic period (A stone on a mountain path shows the words "Etwartus hoc scribat" "Etwartus wrote this")
