Endless Realms bestiary - Ruby Dragon
Bestiary artwork for Endless Realms, a D&D-like "pen and paper" fantasy RPG I'm working for.
Differing from other dragon concepts in the game so far, this dragon isn't a demigod or avatar of a particular elemental or cosmic force. To be honest, I'm actually not too sure what the team has in mind for these guys, but asked me to come up with a ruby-themed dragon, so I decided to take inspiration from historical and pagan lore regarding rubies as relating to wealth, power and kingliness as well as health, blood and immortality.

I haven't done a whole lot of dragons before, previously, but I've done a number of them now for ER and Vangarthia combined over the past two years or so, heh. Thank you, it's been good to get to practice them :)
Heh, someday! Hopefully later this year, if we're really really lucky :b I'm getting pretty close to being finished the bestiary, I think. Maybe a few months away? Although the art director still hasn't really gotten me started on Core Handbook illustrations, yet, which is probably a bit of a concern :b
first off.. sorry I didn't post on this earlier hon.. but seeing the creature.. it strikes me that if a group of adventurers was ever to defeat one of those beasts.. at least half of its' treasure would be in the "rubies that are part of it's structure.. tail, wing tips, chest, head horns.. ect... yes? as a magical creature, I would think that it's unusual diet would let it grow mineral deposits ( like we have in our bodies and bones) that would be actual ruby.. just "hardened and by scratching on rocks and such around the cave with it's head and claws.. also *SHARPENED*... I don't honestly know how good of an edge a real ruby can hold.. but I'd assume its' like obsidian in that it can hold a serious edge that is supposed to be superior to a surgeon's scalpel
Hey, don't apologize! Obviously no one has any real obligation to comment on anything :b I do appreciate it, though :)
And yeah, I imagine the loot from such a dragon would be fairly impressive :b Even if a lot of the scales/claws/teeth/etc. weren't recoverable or broke in the process, they'd still be worth a ton of money, or they could be used to make the fanciest caltrops ever, lol.

then he plays an intelligent Ninja... as any good information source can tell ( like with modern day firearms) where certain things were made... so why leave evidence of one's passing ( save for verbal of any targets that got away) behind.. hmm? hehee.. very very sweet sir
