Once upon a time. Cobalt and Ian were tiny little darnathi nuggets. Even though the two of them are technically twins, Cobalt was a decidedly early bloomer, and Ian a very late bloomer. As such Cobalt metamorphosed much faster than his twin. (Though it's also speculated that because Cobalt took more after his antarctic adapted mother, it helped speed his development in the otherwise cooler climate.) Not wanting Ian to be left out, he would remove him from the nursery pond (which may have, admittedly, also stunted Ian's development) and carried him around with him. Much to his parent's ineffective protest.
