A Children's Hospital Care Unit
MERVAS is for far more than what some have labeled it. Companion units come in all shapes and sizes, with all different sorts of purposes. While most companion units are designed to help an individual or a small family, some are made to help many. With infinite patience and unconditional love, such an android can work wonders for the most vulnerable and needy. Hence, the creation of Vogel, the penguin health care companion.
Commissioned for a children's hospital, Vogel is designed to interact with the children there and make sure they are as comfortable, enriched, and loved as possible. With his immunity to pain and lack of stressors, he makes an unconditionally patient caregiver who will never falter in his love for those he helps. Shaped as a child himself, he is able to have nuanced interactions with anyone who needs him, but also has an adult-like maturity and emotional stability to set a good example and keep organic children safe.
This scene takes place shortly after MERVAS becomes public and sets out to create androids specifically to help organics more out in the open. Sadly, even then many of them are treated with suspicion and hatred...

Were you thinking of "I, Robot"? Sadly in that movie everyone not liking them ended up being justifiable as they went and tried to do some pretty freaky things, including murdering people that they figured were expendable for their interpretation of humanity's future, whether that was supposed to be accurate or not. MERVASians, on the other hand, don't try to force their will on others because they recognize that they are not perfect and thus their opinions cannot be considered the only acceptable options.
That's what MERVAS does in the storyline, which helps them gain many supporters. There are always those that think they're playing a long game of deception in order to take over, though, similar to "V" or "Childhood's End", where an advanced civilization makes everything better but has ulterior motives that take decades to unravel.
