Mary looked at Nino’s task at hand with curiosity. “What are you picking?”

“They are called ‘eyes of Tano.’ They are herbs.” Nino said without looking up.

Mary squinted at the leaf in her hand. “Eyes? Kind of gross name.”

Nino sighed, straining to find the desire to explain to his young companion. “Their real name is noatano. Literally translated, they are ‘knowledge of the future seer.’”

“That’s kinda’ weird. What do you use them for? Soup?”

“Smoking.”

“Oh.”
