Let us not forget the 50s had entire busfuls of people reading newspapers and never saying a damn thing to each other.
Also, it was really difficult to talk to any friends that were not the same skin colour as you so uh, society kinda FORCED you not to communicate, baby boomers don't know fucking shit :\
