It didn't actually hit Chinese New Year until today, Monday, February 8. We are now in Tàichū year 2130. (He was just a bit early -- like he said, he's not that big on the actual date, but the Lion Dance is awesome.)

Fun fact: In the Chinese calendar, I was born in the season of Mǎo, in the year of gēngxū 4667 (anno huangdi), on the second day of the second month. (Mother said I was born at the hour of Shé, but my birth certificate disagrees.)

(Translation: Born in early spring (Rabbit), in the year of the Metal Dog 4667 (1970), on the second day of the second month (March 9th), at 9 A.M.)
