Mariette and Cosette! (Now with clothing... and a last name!)
I've come to the decision that Mariette and Cosette's everyday ware are a specialized brand of work clothes, usually reserved for higher ranking servants of the nobility.
They are designed with specialized gill like meshes that allow the barer to feel refreshed in warm temperatures or cozy in frigid temperatures.
The raw materials necessary to craft such an outfit usually comes from one of several types of herd animal, usually of a readily available species. The Gill mesh, arguably the one feature that places the outfits squarely into the realm of luxury ware come from an uncommon species of Zombie Cat Fish.
They are much like other species of gigantic cat fish except for their tendency to eat the brains of other fish. Their undead nature makes their gill lining very soft, stretchable, and water phobic, with the added benefit of emitting a subtle fragrant aroma. Frontiers men use the materials in a wide variety of ways.
While Gigantic Undead Catfish can be rather dangerous to hunt in the wild nursery farms have recently been established by the nobility to improve their harvest. That such measures have greatly reduced the number of casualties that result each year was an unexpected boon.
While such garments tend to be too costly for the average peasant to acquire most nobles are unwilling to have their outdoors men be seen without such finery.
I'm currently aiming for Babette to be working as a sort of stable master in one of several facilities controlled by the nobility during the early events that lead to the family's exile.
Her daughters used to occasionally aid their mother in her craft but when they happen to catch the Fief lords bully of a daughter in a particularly bad mood it spells doom for the surviving members of the Chayse family.
Unfortunately for Babette she was not so renown in her skills as to have had responsibility over any of the Fief lord's personal favorite steeds thus making her and her daughters expendable as far as he was concerned.
