Disney's Oliver and Company is one of my favorite animated features, and Georgette -- the pampered pedigree poodle vamped to the hilt by the Divine Miss M herself, Bette Midler -- is my favorite character in the film. Here's a few sketches I did of her a few years ago where I tried to capture some of her expressions. I love to deconstruct cartoon characters and, in the upper left, you can see how I tried to figure out how her "wig" works in relationship to the rest of her head.

Oddly enough, I wasn't sure if I liked the movie the very first time I saw it. So I decided to catch it again and, for whatever reason, I became a huge fan. In the Spring of 1989, a few months after the film was released, it hit the local second-run theaters (the "dollar cinemas", as they were known at the time because admission was usually 99-cents). One of those theaters was located about a mile from where I worked at the time. So every Friday for about 9 weeks in early '89 I would spend a buck to see Oliver and Company one more time. To this day, I think I can still recite entire scenes from the movie from memory. :)
It was a good thing, too, since legal/contractual hassles kept the film from being released to home video for almost a decade.

Very nice! I hope you can draw Rita sometime too.
Also, at the risk of sounding like an ad: in case you haven't heard, Oliver and Company will be re-released on DVD soon. Details are at http://disneydvd.disney.go.com/oliv.....l-edition.html .

Rita's probably my #2 favorite from O'n'C. One of Rita's animators was Shawn Keller (creator of the notorious "Furries" comic book), which why she looks so great in that movie (in certain scenes, anyway; Shawn wasn't the only artist to work on her).
Thanks for the heads-up on the video! I grabbed the LaserDisc when it finally became available, years after the film was released (see my comments, above), and the DVD when it was first released. Hard to believe it's already time for a "20th Anniversary" edition!
