Besides webcomics, I also like characters from regular anthropomorphic comic books. One such title is "Shanda the Panda" - created by Mike Curtis - a mature soap opera (not quite unlike "Omaha the Cat Dancer") that takes place in the fictional town of Cedar Rabbits. Among some of Shanda's friends are a couple of workers at a local multiplex cinema - 'Scotty' (a mouse) and 'Lurch' (a buffalo).
In the late 1990s, I'd sent Mike a piece of fan art (along with a puzzle pertaining to the year 2000), which would eventually appear in an issue of the comic book. Having recently rediscovered the original artwork (and since the New Year IS still fairly new), I thought I'd share this image with you.

I liked doing this drawing, partially because it reminded me of The Mini Cinema in Uniondale, NY. When I used to go there (back in the 1970s and early 1980s, before it went out of business), the lobby used to be decorated for many events. Balloons were the usual decor for the theater's annual birthday party, and I used to show up there, dressed up like Groucho Marx - since Marx Brothers movies were the usual main attraction at the Mini.
