Note: This takes place between Round 7 (Chie vs. Lucina) and Round 8 (Tifa vs. Wonder Woman).

This one took a while to write for a few reasons. Firstly I wanted to start showing a bit more of Makatsa as more than just a shadowy boss at the end of the tournament and have her interact a bit more with the other characters. It also seemed like a good time to show what some of the fighters were doing once they lost their respective rounds. Psylocke's surprise early defeat actually helped a lot to fill in some of the holes of the narrative quite well as Makatsa builds her army out of a bunch of badass warriors who have every reason to actively go out of their way to stop her. I'm trying to set up the narrative in a way that gives each character some sort of reasoning, rather than just some sort of blanket excuse like a cartoonish mind-control ray. I'm not sure if I am successful, but that is the goal as I build towards the finale of this long running tournament.

The other main thing is that I didn't really know much about Chie at the start of the tournament, as she had won in a suggestion poll as a "write-in" character. It seemed a little odd to try and write a character and give her the same level of detail as some of the other fighters from only a wiki, so I watched Persona 4 the Animation. Now that I have, I'm very grateful to whoever suggested Chie for the tournament (Sorry, I don't recall who exactly it was), because its a pretty fun show with a lot of great characters and I liked it immensely. (Its safe to expect the other members of the club will eventually be drawn in the future). Luckily for me, Chie ended up being my favourite character anyway, so it worked out well!

And yes, before anyone asks, this whole thing is basically all just a set up for the stupid joke at the end.
