A personal piece of mine, but I just wanted to try out a little 'experiment' so to speak.
Illustration, and art in general is a powerful tool, you can subconsciously lead the 'reader' to certain conclusions about a piece visually, or with written text. But everyone views things in a different way, they take what they want out of a piece and maybe put an idea to it that wasn't initially there. Just because it wasn't the creator's concept, that's not to say it's not valid.
This piece -does- have personal meaning to it, but if you could spare a few minutes, it would be great if you could just analyse the piece and see what you gain from it, and let me know. I want to hear what you think the meaning behind this piece is.

The picture feels quite out of context and therefore mysterious. The numbers and Roman letters/symbols could mean anything - maybe it's a crime case that needs to be solved? I have a feeling that his shirt design is also chosen on purpose to symbolize something. Hare vs wolf, good intentions vs bad ones? The entire picture makes me think about life choices and what to choose. :)
Hmm, interesting concept and challenge there.
Alright, arms splayed, head looking towards the viewer, on back but with legs raised in an almost falling position.
Brick walls surrounding a fall of different forms of numbers.
For me, it very much appears to present on the limitations of life. That we are confined in what we can do and achieve, due to how society works and what is possible to achieve, and all the while, our time is running out. That we, through different situations and societal pressures, run out of time and the way we view time passes quickly, that we are often caught off guard and trapped on our back, while time passes us by. We can see it, and it does indeed pass quickly, but we don't necessarily relate to it properly and so we don't get up and take advantage of the time that we have.
Anyway, there is a ramble for you.
Thank you for the artwork, it is definitely interesting.

i feel like the image itself might represent man overemphasizing the importance of numbers, falling into the trap of seeing the as more important than what they are, writing on paper.
it gets interesting when i take the fact there was a question to judge the image as well, because the question makes me think that its judging to see whether or not people will focus on the numbers themselves, trying to find meaning in them even the=ough there is none.
some evidence i found is that not only does the man look very disgruntled and tired (not just from falling) but the image on his shirt when rightside up would be the hare over the wolf, which could mean good (seeing numbers as just what they are) versus when hes fallen the image being upside down representing the bad (placing more importance over them)
and... one last thing i noticed. there are multiple watermarks and signatures. i dont know if thats supposed to mean anything or if ive started looking a little too far into it

I am waaaay tired and past my bedtime, so excise the off-the-wall rant that my intuition is about to spew stream-of-consciousness style.
All out of time, number's up, and that rabbit is about to mess that dog up like in the movie Snatch. Except, you know, the other way around. A feeling of confinement, tension, the need to break loose. A feeling of excitement, the desire to move forward. Counting the days. The minutes. The seconds. When you gonna spring loose?
Hmm. That being said, this makes me think of the thrill and anxiety and desire for change.
That was really fun to do! :D

Oh, no worries at all! I love an invitation to bust-out the intuituon. When I was in college the class had a an assignment were we were supposed to find a photo that represented us and share it without saying why we picked it. Then the other students had to guess something about the person based on the picture. It was so much fun, I would write a similar paragraph to describe the person and most of the time had what I wrote confirmed. (Though I've always been curious if that was because I was accurate of if it was because they wanted what I said to be true.)
Feel free to hit-me up for feedback anytime!
And this looks like such a successful experiment, you don't mind if try it myself sometime, do you? What a wonderful way to get folks talking and thinking!

Yeah, I haven't been active on FA very long, but I did notice the lack of art comments. Actually, about a year ago I had the idea of starting a short-term project that somehow encouraged community-building, but I hadn't yet figured-out how to do that. Maybe something like the experiment you're conducting is a step in the right direction!
Well, if you have any other ideas or suggestions, I'm all-ears! I was thinking about doing something similar to this, and if enough of my viewers were responsive, maybe do some sort of "class" where I could maybe concentrate on just encoraging talking and thinking about art. Beyond the simple how-to stuff, and more about the why-did-the-artist-make-this-choice stuff. Why-do-we-perceve-what-we-do stuff.
I'm sure, like me, you learn a lot by analyzing and critiquing every work that catches your eye. I remember in art school realizing that critiquing Old Masters was really about exploring your own understanding and preferences rather than trying to just say why an OM work was good.
Hope you don't mind me ranting at you. Helps me explore and cement ideas if I am talking to another person, lol

Hands position and face would tell me about some "bring it on" -situation. All those numbers? They remind me of a jury's scoreboard. You know what I mean, there's million competition shows where the jury raises their scores after a perform.
Hoggy doesn't seem satisfied. Falling obviously. Maybe he expected something better, but then hard truth hit in the face. What truth, that remains a mystery.
My viewpoint may have been altered for an obvious reason...

From the way I perceive it, coming the light from the top, and having apparently another wall out of the vision (projecting a shadow) that makes me think that's a narrow alley, it could mean he feels stuck somewhere, let's say at a point of his life due to the numbers (plus a watch in the wrist, if those aren't two watches or the right one is just a bracelet, I haven't seen them in your other pics so anyway, the date?), but still the light would mean he knows there's an exit even if he finds it unreachable atm (tho i have to say it shouldn't be that high from the angle of the light, that does reach the bottom).
Though, the numbers only show up to #5 and apparently they're falling from the top so it could be a number of opportunities he has to some project or similar, or solutions/answers to that problem or situation (the narrow alley here). Maybe the fact that there are different numeric systems means that every option is too different but still related, or that everything related to the subject of the options is a mess cause they aren't in order. Also there's significantly more #1 than any other number.
The red in the tshirt could mean danger I guess. By the colors of the wolf and rabbit it also holds the ying-yang symbol, but in this case the black wolf is bigger so maybe it's not that balanced. Still, he doesn't look like he's hurt, just confused maybe? Or a bit defeated or waiting for the viewers help.
Not sure if that makes any sense. But anyway there are some details that seem to be opposite to each other. I like looking for details but then to search a meaning is out of my league. x.x

At its most literal I take it as a guy who was carrying a giant stack of papers with weird numbering on them and was like "wtf why did my boss tell me to carry these and stand on this spot" hilarious hijinks ensue with a trap door gag :3
But let's see if I go deeper the most obvious way to interpret the numbers would be days past, time gone in general. He may have been going through life only to feel like he's suddenly fell into a trap he didn't forsee. The duality of the rabbit and wolf can represent the hunter and the prey dynamic, juxtaposed with the time analogy maybe the man was led into a trap by the hunter over time, he didn't see it coming like most prey thus making him the rabbit. The tattoos may be representing how he feels atm with the bee being the sting of pain from the trauma, but I'd be rambling at this point if I haven't been already XD
That's all I got, nice job. I personally like my literal translation hehe

I perceive this as a trap door to time, you see a lot of the numbers plus the symbols that represent numbers on a clock. so when I look at this the first thing that comes to mind is losing time, things fly by us so fast that we lose our sense of order and perception, more so where we think that life is flashing by and if we don't live to the fullest, we fall through the trap door of unconsciousness and we go through the motions and the order of things.
I also see that we should free ourselves from that order of living and free our minds to express who we are inside and what we can become. :3
If anything of what I'm saying makes sense. :P

What I read from it is him falling into a pit of numbers meaning how everything is to be dated and organised making the world an organised chaos in stead of seeing things as they are.
This is what we see when we enter this world. just numbers.
I totally got this out of context didn't I? haha.
I like these! you should do it more often (:

Ok, let's see...
Even though I am originally drawn to the flurry of yellow papers, the character's facial expression and posture informs me of the work's tone. He looks frustrated, maybe a bit confused/puzzled. His open and upside-down posture suggest that he is possibly checked out for the day or at least taking a break before returning to work on whatever task/problem he is up against. The character doesn't seem nearly distraught enough for him to be completely at the end of his rope.
The shirt I view as a wheel of fortune symbol (because of the formation and direction of the animals). With the rabbit in the upright position, I would see it symbolizing vulnerability or innocence or lack of power.
As far as the numbers go, the variety of systems for the same function add a layer of chaos or confusion to the piece.
Hope that helps!

Ahhhhh thank you so much for this analysis O: it totally rocked, one of my faves. Somethings are right on point, and somethings really made me think about the image again, fascinating.

It looks to me as if it may be about a financial or educational struggle. Maybe even a sort of interpretation problem.
It looks to me as if he was attempting to climb a really difficult wall to overcome and fell. The different numbers representing how no matter how he tries to crunch and work the different numbers they are too overwhelming and keeping him down. I would interpret that being the reason for them being in different forms, numerical, roman, etc.
As an education struggle, it's practically the same interpretation, but maybe more directed at a math course and struggling to understand all the different formulas and expressions.
Last, what I mean by an interpretation struggle, is just a struggle to understand....Whether that's something like a language barrier, or just the differences between people even though they're technically the same.
One last thing, since I didn't notice at first, was the shirt! I could see this somehow being related to your gender identity? (or maybe it's just your character's, sorry I don't know you very well)
The yin and yang, basically. I can see how this would tie into the numbers and wall too, for the same reasonings I said before.
Overall, I'd say there seems to be a theme of suppression in this and a few other of your pieces.

while many are taking a more neqative perspective on this piece, i actually find this to be a little more positive. After looking at the many other pieces featuring Hogarth, i realised that in this, he isnt harmed or bloody (save for his poor tush) moreover, the colors in this are very warm and pleasant. while im not saying that this is a happy piece, theres a sense of positivity in the colors you chose and in the state of health Hogard is in. i can imagine that just a minute ago, Hogard had been balancing at the edge of the fall, watching all the paper float gently down, and after a moment of thought, turned around and let gravity take him down, giving in to that inevitable force.
Wow this is really refreshing to read, and I'm glad you managed to compare it to previous images of Hogarth too, I respect that!
For that, have a thank you ratty! - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/18909605/
I really love your idea of this image, it's almost magical, thank you. I love just picturing it that way. So peaceful really.

I'm gonna take a crack at this for fun, as I do love symbolism, your artwork, and Hoggy.
I know that Hoggy is effectively you, and I know that you do art on a public scale-- moreso than probably a lot of artists on this website. I know that you go to fairs and fests with it, for sell and for show.
Someone mentioned there are a lot of ones and twos... which I hadn't originally noticed, but looked again. There are also some threes.
To me it seems that these may represent places you have achieved in contest or awards you have won. I am not sure how your fairs work over there but I suspect they are similar to ours, ie they are awarded by judges for fun or for prizes and displayed with their ribbons to the public.
So it seems to me these represent achievements, though the yellow color makes me feel like you are perhaps overwhelmed by the "alarming" nature of having to constantly struggle to achieve first, second, third. To place. It makes you stand still and think-- "slow." Or perhaps it could be indicative of gold, and you see your works as success regardless of their ranking-- since the yellow is more muted. But still, you feel a bit overwhelmed and buried in them-- and the floor being green "go" but it is a rough start-- indicative of Hoggy/your back being on the ground and looking a bit uncomfortable.
The shirt, I am sure also has a meaning. I know that rabbits are indicative of a new start and prosperity/fertility-- the fact that it is white and also on top (relative to the shirt) but it is always being chased by the dog or the wolf, in black. Very traditionally bad omen. And to the viewer these are upside down from where they would be if Hoggy was standing upright. And therefore they are upside down to him too, even though when he is standing things would be okay. The shirt is red. "Stop." Danger. A warning.
I rambled. lol.
I guess tl;dr this is a personal struggle where you look for success within yourself and find it, but still feel crushed to push harder and be more. And even if you feel like you have personally achieved, perhaps exterior pressures still crush you.
A pretty simple takeaway but yeah, that's what I see.

What i get from it, is the difficulty and chaos that comes with trying to balance things in life. Keeping priorities in order, along with managing work vs fun time.
Its like when you try to lay your schedule out and keep it organized only to have everything fall out from under your feet and bring you back you square one (and understanding that thats just how it is)

To me it seems like the character has gotten themselves stuck in a lonely and isolated situation and they cant get out. The numbered sheets seem to be a countdown of the days they've been stuck, however because where they are trapped is so boring and bland, days don't even matter. That's why the numbers restart with the highest being five. Everyday is the same thing. time means nothing when every day is in a loop. Speaking of loops... maybe that's what got them to this point, whatever happened before they fell. The character seems like the type with a very free spirit, an extrovert, maybe an artist. Whatever happened to them before falling down could have not allowed them to express those character traits, possibly friends being lost, or college classes holding them up from their hobby. Those papers fell down with them, so we assume that their life was already in a repetitive state, however they have kept up with it so long they fell into a ditch and now feel they cant escape.
(Btw this piece looks really cool, radical shadows, man <3)

This pose is really amazing.
I love how you drew this, it looks really difficult, but you pulled it off really well. The folds and details on the clothes give the whole a nice depth. Also i like that you drew the brickwall yourself.
also nice work on the papers and the shading.
alright gonna try to write what i see there.
I think the pose shows a certain kind of struggle, maybe not fitting really in the given world. Also it looks to me like he fell down or something, what kind of gives me again this feeling of unfitting/not be the same for the whole picture.
The notes with the numbers look like the wish for people to number anything/everyone and have a certain control of others and well (the feeling of grades XD at least for me)
Drowning in expactations and the wish of the surrounding to force everyone to fit in their system.
tbh i have no idea......i just brabble around.
