My second and final update to this. I fully colored the same pic I submitted last night to see if its possible to follow up on my techniques. I will leave it to you guys to decide whether I made good on it or not. Will probably be scrapped, depending on which of the two is more popular.

Yeah I did notice that the hair was pretty much the same as the other version :)
I'm honestly not 100% sure what I like more about this. It may perhaps be that this just is a bit more heavily shaded style to it, or it might also be that I kind of like the darker tones of his skin.

Ah, yeah, the first was purely cel shaded, while this one i did use actual painting to color. Using what I learned about tones and color balance to do it. I probably should have done a different values layer for this one, maybe I'll try it later and see.
Still, happy you enjoyed these two pics. It means a lot to have people commenting on them so often. C:

Yeah I don't really know too much about it myself but it does still sound pretty interesting. You believe this might be something that could improve this coloring style?
Oh believe me, as I've probably said before. You have a great style and is pretty damn nice to boot, so you will definitely be seeing more of me and my comments ;)

Basically it allows me to do things like adding textures and have better control of a pics composition. Doing a separate layer exclusively for greyscale/ values lets me tweak things without the hassles of messing up colors.
#2 Is what happens if did a separate values layer, it uses the exact same color layer as #3. I can give you a link to full sized image so you can better compare it to the other two.
#3 uses #1 values layer (I made a mistake and made it black and white for its greyscale layer sample.
Hope that clear enough for you to understand.
I really appreciate the good comments from both you and noobwriter. it's a 2016 resolution to get more involved with the various art communities, that means being much more active with them.

Ah yeah I think I understand it a bit better now. Now 100% but I somehow get the gist. Getting that texture on in no. 2 really just makes the big orc that much more lovable. While it's perhaps a bit harder to judge with the small image sizes I can definitely say that I like that best :3
Honestly I'm happy that you've become that more active. I really love sharing comments with the artist of a piece I like. It's honestly what keeps me coming back to comment some more since I get the feeling that the artist feels the same way :)

yep, was nothing but a silly dollar sign, no one will miss it. I'll use this page for plopping temporary images. So if you really like the pic I suggest saving it onto your computer, as I dunno how long I'll leave it up. (already plan to use it for comm previews hint hint) :)
Ah right I was just thinking that it was very odd that the submission was that old :P
Anyways yeah I gotta say that the water colors are my clear favorites. The other two styles does come pretty close though the texture of his skin really just looks too good :3
Aaaand saved *Nudge nudge* ;)
