Lemmie tell you, this is not a DD car. I'm lucky mine is in good condition, but for anything else it's a project car. There is no point in pouring money into stock components. I've got Koni Struts, lowering springs and poly bushings coming soon, and after that it will be the 88 rear suspension with improved geometry for more awesome.
After that I am gonna rebuild a 3.8L SC I snatched and drop it in with a 5 speed. America does need more MR, but the last chance they had I think was the Fiero or the CERV-III (which, mind you, came AFTER the Fiero. Hint hint.) MR is the superior application for track and autocross, and always will be :3
If you do get it and build it... you're going to learn a lot about cars, and you're going to have a TON of fun driving it. You don't know how many times I've had someone say "Nice Ferrari." I just smile and wave.

Well. Only recent "American" made MR car I know of was the Ford GT they released back in 2002 which of course was only made in certain amounts, then discontinued. Other than that it's only cars like Porsche, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Bugatti, Lotus, Pagani and Koenigsegg.
But personally I think American car companies only know how to make muscle cars and pickup trucks. Normally their little "tuner" style cars suck, some of their sedans are usually redone versions of older cars. Like Fords Fusion sedan which was a gussied up Taurus with a new badge. Which was discontinued and then re-released as a Taurus again.
It's no wonder imports seem to get far better business. *shakes head.*

Well there is the Aero SSC Ultimate, world's fastest car and such. But Shelby Supercars went out of business, so even those are done for. The Fiero is still the most affordable MR platform, and when compared to the same year MR2 it dominates. (A lot of people say the MR2 stock for stock is faster.. well, because it's supercharged. Comparing N/A to supercharged is pointless.) Not to mention the frame is sturdier.
Essentially our car's are built for a strip while the rest of the world looks upon the track. We bring the 'Vette and a few other cars to the table but that's about it unfortunately. Those imports all have one major flaw though, and that would be that 95% of them are FF. This isn't really the greatest engine-output layout for a track unless you plan on driving off the course in a corner.
The Fiero came far before it's time no thanks to John DeLorean. And it started to violate the golden GM rule at the end of it's life, "Nothing touches the Corvette." So when it did, they killed it and just said it wasn't selling anymore instead. :( They even made an MR Corvette afterwards!

I fine what you're saying about the Fiero being rid of because it was beating the Corvette. Of course they're going to rid of a new model because the Vette has years of history behind it. Now if they gave the Fiero a chance and it was still going today I could imagine how well it could perform. Ridding of it was an excuse so they didn't have to update it over the years and just pour all of their money into the Vette.
Don't get me wrong. The Vette is a nice car but it still had year periods like everything else on four tires where it was just a pretty looking, under powered pos. As for Shelby sports cars. The local Yamaha dealer 18 miles away from me has a Shelby Series-1 on display along with a 60's/70's era Corvette Stingray with a 454 in it. The Shelby is for sale. But I just don't have the $120,000.00 to buy it. :P

You got that right... Poor Mans Ferrari.. Consider though that there was a mega-shitty Ferrari in the 80's that this car would destroy :D I can't remember the name... but it's tranny exploded if you didn't let it warm up first. As in like a bomb.
Soooo many youngsters say "Woah nice Ferrari" xD
