It was rare that I ever saw Rhys sad or in moments of self-doubt. It seemed increasingly common since we’d begun dating though. I could only guess it was because this was something he never quite saw himself doing. To be honest, I guess I sort of surprised myself with how readily I accepted his love even after I’d been rejected. We both sat in the odd phase of trying to figure out how we fit into the relationship we’d created, me settling into the realization that I was the only one he had eyes for, and him worrying that he didn’t deserve this. The second was an absurd notion, but then, I probably just couldn’t imagine not wanting to give everything for him.

Tired of seeing his eyes stare into the distance with uncertainty, I knelt behind the bench and held his shoulders with a warm grin.

“Why are you so happy all of a sudden?” his question came slowly.
“I have the sweetest boyfriend in the world. That’s something to be happy about.” I giggled, overjoyed to see the smile coming back to his face.
“I guess I should consider myself lucky you think that. Though, don’t think I don’t share that sentiment.” He smirked causing my eyes to widen in embarrassment. “I love you, Mitch.” He whispered, pressing his lips to mine in a tender kiss.

“I love you too. So cheer up okay.” I smiled knowing we’d work through the awkwardness in time.
