so, the rumor I heard was that Phasma wasn't actually in the script. Gwendolyn apparently bugged abrams and company to give her a part in star wars. They kinda added the character last minute and wrote in what parts they could where they could (so that she could be a face for the storm troopers).
Being said, she is signed on for more movies, so I'm guessing she'll have a serious manhunt out for Finn.

That sounds kind of douchy even for Hollywood but then again it's flipping Star Wars, we STILL watch the original trilogy back when Carrie, Harrison, and Mark were just starting out. We still talk about the prequel trilogy (though you have to pity the poor bastard who had to play Jar Jar Binks) so yeah, kind of a big deal to get any part in.

They fricking CREATED A BRAND NEW CHARACTER and rewrote part of the script because someone wanted to really be in the film. I think that's bloody awesome. :D
Hell, Craig Daniels also wanted to really really be in the film, but didn't want to upstage the story (he's unlisted in his cameo). So they gave him some lines as one of the storm troopers.
