The Hermit represents isolation, wisdom, and the search for truth. While in the concept stage for the Dinosaur Tarot, I tried to stay true to the visual symbols of each card while transitioning them to the natural setting necessary for dinosaurs.
For the Hermit, I chose Crylophosaurus, an unusually crested theropod whose fossil remains have been discovered in Antarctica. I couldn't think of a more remote place for a dinosaur to have lived in, which fits with the motif of a Hermit. While there are other dinosaurs whose remains have been discovered in remote and icy regions, Crylophosaurus was the most visually interesting for me. I gave this guy a coat of feathers that he must have needed in a land of near-twilight for half the year, and his "lantern" is a group of swamp lights in icy fog.
