I bought a print of this particular sprite while I was in Nova Scotia (2004). This was before Amy Brown stuff started popping up everywhere around here and I just thought it was so beautiful an unique...then I came back to the states and only a few months later, Amy Brown mania started showing up everywhere. While I enjoy fairies I am just not very good at drawing them, but they make for wonderful subjects when it comes to wood burning. This particular sprite, however, in the original is actually painted in green, earthy tones. After I finished all the burning and was ready to start adding color I was hesitant as to what colors to use. The orange and reds look well on the wood because it absorbs into the wood well and looks more natural, and it is bright and stands out while still showing off the shading of the burning. So...instead of a earthy sprite, I turned her into an autumn fairy. I found that in playing with my watercolor pencils, I could add the pencil to the areas and skip the water part, but when I added my finish it added the water touch for me so I didn't have to carry out an extra step.
This is another magnet, and I plan on doing a second one. Not sure if I am going to make it exactly the same or not...but most likely. And if anyone is interested...It is also $5.00
