I felt like drawing all three of my mustelid ladies (or Musteladies for short) together today, for the first time ever. This was supposed to be a warm-up, but in typical fashion, it ended up taking me all evening (about seven hours) to finish this. Pretty disgraceful, I feel.
In case you haven’t met them yet, they are, left to right:
- Mel the Wolverine, a cheerful, optimistic girl with a heart of gold who was born into big money but, despite her lack of life experience, wishes to earn her independence and set herself apart from her overbearing family.
- Nat the Otter, an introverted, discreet genius whose crippling anxiety prevented her from living up to her full potential, leading her to hide in a dead-end career and to spend her life running away from challenges and responsibilities.
- Liz the Badger, an amazingly athletic tomboy who is living her dream of being a pro-wrestler, but was pigeonholed into a “bad girl” gimmick which earns her an infamous reputation that is at odds with her kindness and craving for acceptance.
I have this idea of starting a slice-of-life comic with these three living together in an apartment and helping (or not) each other to overcome the challenges in their lives, but I find myself afraid of adding another commitment to all those that I already have.
I am really proud of what I have created with these characters, though, and I feel that I must not let them go to waste. You shall see more of them, I promise. :)
