I had never gone so far for a quarry. The forrests. The savannah. Those were my homes. Where I thrived. Or tried to at least. But the mountains I'd always see looming in the distance, they were alien to me. Another world perhaps. Yet there I was, a predator relying on my basest of instincts to not just survive that unfamiliar landscape, but to succeed on my hunt. It wasn't just a hunt, though. It was a test.
To those outside, this test may seem bizarre. I know what you outsiders think us. We are cheetahs. We run fast. That is how we succeed. I am not saying you are wrong. Our sprints have been our greatest strength, when in constant competition with the lions and the leopards and the hyenas and every other predator, the faster you are, the better your chances at getting the food, escaping threats, living another day.
So, what is its purpose? One can't appreciate the sprint until one has had to hunt without it. If the cheetah cannot survive without the sprint, then the cheetah cannot survive. Fail to catch food on a sprint? You used all that speed for naught. And you have no food to build the speed back up.
This is an old tradition. From back when we couldn't kill from afar, either with these firearms you outsiders like so much or the arrows and spears we developed on our own. All we had was our speed, our claws, and our teeth. But times change. We cannot survive like that anymore. Cheetahs used to extend far and wide, in those mountains even. But we are fewer now. The lions and leopards as well. And to survive we must adapt.
But the test remains. Its lessons still ring true. We must hunt down our assigned quarry, travel far, be patient, learn to adapt. Our instinct, our predatory nature, if we can't use that to survive in new ways, then we won't survive.
I passed the test, after a fortnight on my hunt. My fellow cheetahs welcomed me back in celebration. I'd proven myself. Every cheetah who passes can be relied on to help the tribe survive. With hope, the cheetah will live on in this ever changing world. Will we? We can only do out best. But I am hopeful.
An absolutely stunning, amazing picture created by Felfi and RogueLiger here. It was a YCH auction, this was. I don't usually do Auctions or YCHs. But as soon as I saw this pose, I knew I had to get it. It was perfect for Tribal Skips. Before I saw this YCH, I'd been wanting to get a commission of Tribal Skips acting far more primal than I had in previous commissions of him. To me, normal Skips is just me as a cheetah. But Tribal Skips is his own separate character, in his own separate world. I'd been wanting to have Tribal Skips act more in tune with his bestial nature. Like, many anthro characters aren't so much humans that look like animals, but they are still very much those animals who just happen to act and look human like and have human levels of mental ability. There may be cultures that do their best to supress their animal nature, but it exists in all of them. And I wanted a picture of Tribal Skips embracing that. I wanted him to get down on all fours, prowl, stalk, hunt. I need a picture of him actually killing something one of these days.
So that's why I autobought this YCH. Because it was perfect for showing all that for Tribal Skips. I needed to get it, and it was worth it. The detail in this is absolutely fantastic. The spots and his stripes are perfect. I love how his claws look. Fucking love the structure of his paw in the background. I love how Felfi and RogueLiger incorporated all the accessories, like the wraps and the feathers, and beads, and his rifle! They did everything perfectly for this commission, and I could not possibly be happier for having gotten this. Seriously one of my all time favorite commissions I've ever gotten. It's just brilliant.
Huge thanks to the artists on this one! You brought Tribal Skips to life here. And it's glorious.
