Alioth 2016 Ref Sheet
All righty! Finally got my first project of the year finished: my ref sheet. I have updated my refsheet and made a few minor tweaks to the character. Nothing super big, but a couple of small things that make him slightly easier to draw:
-I have Alioth's hair tied back by default now, to reflect how I wear my hair IRL.
-I've lengthened Alioth's hair so it's midway down his back (again, to reflect RL changes).
-I've slightly altered the color of Alioth's nose from a slate blue-grey to a dark umber.
-I slightly lightened the brown parts of Alioth's fur (they were a little too dark for my liking on my old refs).
-I changed Alioth's tail so that only the tip of it is cream-colored (as opposed to the entire underside).
-I included the kneeboard in the candid reference.
If you order a ref sheet from me in 2016, it will be formatted like this one. I've made a couple of changes from my 2015 refs, mostly to "cut away the fat." Looking at the ref sheets I made last year, they all look cluttered and overworked, so I decided to simplify them a bit. My style has evolved considerably over the past year, and I wanted the changes to my ref sheet format to reflect that. So here's what's changing for my 2016 ref sheets:
-There will be FOUR full-body views instead of five, but instead of simply re-dressing the front and side views, the large full-body view will be a separate candid standing pose. This actually gives me more versatility because the candid pose can be tweaked to show important aspects of the character and even include simple (with heavy emphasis) props (teddy bears, swords, glowsticks, etc.).
-There will be THREE expression headshots instead of six, but they will be larger and easier to see.
-Color swatches will be smaller but placed more prominently.
-Background textures will be softer and less distracting.
-Ref sheet elements will have a vignette glow to make them more visible.
-Ref sheet elements will be HARD-SHADED by default instead of soft-shaded. This will speed up turnaround time and make discrete colors easier for artists to distinguish (soft shading can be added for an additional fee).
-Text will be handwritten instead of typed, unless otherwise requested. (Aside from just through my drawing style, I like to put my personal touch on all of my ref sheets, and I've always thought handwriting is one of the most personal things an artist has. If you would prefer the ref sheet info to be typed, however, I am willing to do that if asked.)
I think that covers everything! Keep an eye out for these! :)
