Foxing in the new year
I set up a nature camera behind my house and I started out New Year's Day with a fox running by the camera! I hadn't seen them in over a year, so I was a little concerned for them. I have a feeling I'm going to be seeing them a LOT now.
The egg in front of it was put out as bait(and the fact that old eggs clog the garbage disposal), but a cat got to it about 12 hours before the fox got there.
I've only seen what might be a fox on the camera 2 other times this month, and each time it was running by the camera too quickly. I'm likely to try another angle soon, maybe add some obstacle so they have to slow down. I put a tiny pumpkin out there the next day, and an opossum ran off with it. I seriously expected a squirrel to nibble at it. It might be time to get something guaranteed to keep a fox in front of the camera: a trampoline. Just as long as it doesn't bounce over the fence. I can get one new for $20-30(fox-sized), though I'll keep an eye out for cheap used ones. Not sure if any other animals would enjoy it. Squirrels would be hilarious on a trampoline.
