I wasn't aware this nation nor its people had advanced enough yet to perform this type of work. They are rapidly catching up to dark age Europe in the quality of their mastery! One day in the not to distant future they will have simple electronics, running water and a functioning sanatiation system in place.

Seeing as Russian innovation is still quite prominent in a lot of scientific fields, notably aerospace (to the point where US astronauts are using Soyuz rockets to get to the International Space Station), I'm afraid I don't really see your point.

Neither do I. It's more a sarcasm than anything directly. I do uber, which is a ride sharing platform that allows you to request transport similar to a taxi within the states (USA) and had a passenger who genuinely believed Russia was "decades" behind western science. The ridicule got to me. Aside from Russia she also had rather offensive things to say concerning Latin and South American achievements both in modern and post modern sciences.

Though I think in the ultimate scheme of things I prefer Andropov more, he was a great reformer, and I think the Soviet Union would have survived had he lived.
