Illcyion was always conflicted. Being good has rewards, and certainly is arguably a better way to go through life. But being evil is far more fun. In fact, being evil is often far more entertaining. He's not evil in the Chaotic sense, but evil in the functional day to day sense. He never lies. He doesn't have to. He learned long ago that telling the truth is always more destructive than telling a lie. Most people don't want to know the truth, it disturbs them, and that's the point.
