caribou has been putting together a Steampunk Lingerie portfolio. Does this fellow fit?You hardly ever see the elegant, rather weird Pronghorn Antelope of the American West in these forums. They're natural for an Old West scene, though. Here you see a scout for the government's Marshall Service. Everything about him, his body, his assigned mission, and his gear, is about running away from trouble.
I'm proud of the outfit. It's supposed to be skimpy and erotic yet have a logical reason for being that way. It provides protection from falls and hitting branches and cactus as he runs. Goggles for sandstorms, canteen, knife, compass, a pouch for matches, one SMALL and LIGHTWEIGHT revolver and six spare cartridges, and he's good to go fast!
No need for him to carry food. He can browse. :)
Even the monocle has a purpose. Pronghorns have fantastic distance vision. I figured this might mean they have trouble focusing on something so close as a revolver's sights.
'Bou was coloring this and stopped the background at this point, saying more and brighter colors would ruin things. I agree. Back in true Victorian days colored postcards were made by taking a monochrome photograph and hand-tinting the background with watercolors. As it stands, this drawing does a fantastic job of reproducing that effect. Besides, it looks like a desert with a sandstorm just past, or just coming in.
In the West these critters are called antelope. They aren't; the pronghorn is the sole survivor of an unrelated genus. But I flagged him as an antelope anyway, as the closest thing available.
