Hmm... I feel like you already know this, but I'll tell you anyway. Undyne seems to be based on a mythological Undine when I saw the design in a previous drawing of yours, when I realized it was a she. And she seemed to be water-based.

Actually, I don't know much about Undines beyond that they're water-based women, so I looked it up a little. And I found this:
"What undines lack, compared to humans, is a soul. Marriage with a human shortens their lives on Earth, but earns them an immortal human soul."
Huh. Interesting. From what little I played of Undertale, I think this was a theme as well? Monsters don't have soul but humans do?

Anyway, to get back to the original topic. I am not sure if the name Undyne as spelled with a y is a coincidence or not, but maybe this new info might help you decide for yourself.
