You're wandering outside on a cold winter's day when you witness the sight of the biggest, strangest snowman you've ever encountered. The thing is surprisingly muscular with an unusually broad upper body for a snowman. It's sculpted exceptionally well though, and you can only imagine the hours of careful craftsmanship that went into every band of bulging tissue on the snowy figure.
Walking closer to it, your eyes move past the imposing physique, scanning upwards and observing the face. The snow sculpture's countenance is partly thrown into darkness by the brim of a bizarrely oily-looking top hat. What you can see of its face -- a sort of gnarled beak with inexplicable stitching running in X-shapes along the sides of it -- seems in stark contrast to the beautiful lines of the body.
You realize far too late that the thing is making subtle movements as it slowly swells to life, and suddenly its thick, powerful arms are reaching for you. This is no snowman at all, but an awful monster! And the only thing that's "coal" about its eyes is the hot-red glow of their terrifying, burning intensity!
I'd initially planned to draw a big buff scary snowman, but after dwelling on the concept for a moment, I realized how similar that design would be to my favorite creepy cold monster, Abomination Jones (courtesy of
redpyrodragon, as always). After all, once Halloween's over and the season for demons, spectres and other supernatural horrors to roam free has come and gone, then how're are they supposed to have their fun? What would they do during the "off season"? Why, make all the other seasons scary, of course! The idea of Jonesy going all stealth-snowman to terrify unsuspecting winter travelers seemed both creepy and funny, so I had to go for it. XD
And yes, he made that top hat himself, fashioned out of his own creepy black gunk. It was originally just gonna be some regular, ratty hat, but since Jones, being a ghost-thing and all, is himself a light source, I figured the only thing that could cast a shadow on his face would be something made out of his own shadowy essence. Not sure where the scarf came from though. He probably pilfered it from some other poor soul that had the misfortune to happen upon his path. Stealing is fun when people are way too frightened to try to stop you. XD
