I have heard that relying on jump scares to much can take away the fear in a game or movie and FNaF in reality does disprove that.
I know I am going to sound like I am conflicting my self but even though the art style I think doesn't totally fit a horror game FNaF can consistently do jump scares with its good timing and excellent use of anticipation. Yahtzee said that game was so scary it was more like a heart attack simulator then a game and having played it I think I agree. There is a difference between playing a scary game that is fun and playing a game that makes you feel like your heart is about to explode.

The type of scare FNaF gets you while not generally good for having fun is actually perfect for entertainers like many gaming Youtubers. This is why you will see so many FNaF lets plays on so many different Youtube channels. I think it really caters to them more then casual or hardcore gamers.
This creates an interesting outcome because I think that gives them a smaller target pool then both games that go for casual gamers and games that cater to the hardcore. I would explain its popularity largely do to its amount of attention on video sites since it makes for such great reaction material. This provides more and more publicity as people make more videos of FNaF.

A lot of people liked the characters. And also proclaimed it was the scariest game ever.........for some reason. Not really my idea of 'scariest game ever' but whatever hahaha. It wasn't just video sites, it was pretty popular amongst those who liked Creepy Pasta n such. Kind of took the place of Slender, whoever that kid's name was the Killer, etc.
PT is a demo exclusive to the PS4. I think its for a Silent Hills game that got cancelled. This is surprising to me because I've heard of the Silent Hill games before but thought they were more of the action type game that tries to be scary while giving you a big M-16 rifle plenty of grenades and a crowbar.
