Smiley reporting in yet again. It seems all other species lack all good common sense and reason. Perhaps I am getting a bit ahead of myself. You see, I had been minding my own business, like I often am, going about, knocking things down in order for them to make interesting sounds, destroying public property—all good harmless fun, when all of a Mr. Hedgehog man-guy comes hedgehogging along and insisting I’d done some kind of wrong! Before I knew it, I’d been scooped up and well…after everything was said and done I decided to spend my time doing something less visually destructive for awhile.

I'm always nervous to write about characters that I personally don't know. X3 Although I found out that some of my commissioners actually like it regardless haha. And really, It was my intent to have little stories for all my pics, its just been lately I've mostly been doing reference images, which don't really work so great with stories.
In the case of references I think writing a bit about the character's personality and so fourth would be enough. Its just a character reference after all.
In regards to commissions I was thinking all you would have to do is edit your front page to say you do short stories free with commissions. Anytime someone asks you not to do a short text piece for their commission you simply abide by that wish.

Well that's what I usually do on refs. But its not story material.
And no, that's not what i mean. I mean the fact I don't know their character's behaviors/how to put them in proper light. Very few people describe it well enough for me to get the idea. Not all, but most I'm doing good to get the info for the commission, let alone right about their characters in a relevant manner haha.

Hmm alright. In that case I would just say you should do these short stories for your own characters and any characters your familiar with enough to do so (I'm talking characters from actual funded fiction like Nintendo. I'd love to see that Bloodreaper kitteh spanking a Yoshi if I ever have enough money to commission.)
I usually do that with the characters I have. o3o that's been a thing I've been doing for years actually.
I don't usually draw much fanart stuff. I don't think I've ever drawn a cross of OC and any Franchise characters. I think that's the word you were looking for by the way lol XD Big name companies/franchises etc.
