Waveblades are said to be the most sophisticated weapons of Wavemasters. Their art, also known as Direct Energy Projection (or DEP for short), is centered around the principle of directly attacking with Iserial Energy itself, without having to weave it into the form of an Iserialogy first. This enables them to dish out massive attacks in an instant, and adjust their attacks with the ease of a thought.
However, DEP is effectively useless without two key abilities.
The first requirement is the ability to call upon huge reserves of Iserial Energy. Since pure Iserial Energy is only dangerous in large quantities, the user must be able to supply the enormous amounts needed to fight effectively with this, or he might as well be wielding a paper fan.
The second requirement is the ability to channel these large amounts of Iserial Energy. This is the more crucial of the two requirements, since while it is possible to make up for a lack of Iserial Energy by the use of Crystals, the ability to safely channel large quantities of Iserial Energy without burning one's self out is either a rare natural prowess, or the result of years of long and painful training, possibly including not only one but several burnouts and the resulting downtime.
As a result of these, Wavemasters are far and few in between, and bear their title with great pride. And only the most gifted or experienced Wavemasters ever manage to conjure and wield a Waveblade effectively. This marvelous weapon is an extension of the wielder's spiritual energy, and as thus every waveblade is of a different shape, color and design, to reflect its wielder. Indeed, as a Waveblader's personality changes over the course of years, so does his Waveblade, evolving with him, growing and changing, always a mirror of the wielder's soul.
Unmatched in combat, Wavebladers historically have only been defeated by vastly superior numbers, or other Wavemasters and/or Wavebladers. Also, sadly many great Wavebladers have fallen victim to dastardly practices such as assassination and poison. However, no matter what end they met, their names will always be remembered, for there are two things all Wavebladers have in common: The desire to bring about change, and the will to see it through.
