Initially I thought of posting this tomorrow on Christmas, but given what Hell might break out tomorrow, I decided to post it today.
Now to explain the story behind this picture:
My favorite painter is Alphonse Mucha (something which you can CLEARLY see in my art... I know...), a Czech artist made famous during the "Art Nouveau" period in art. I admired his work and there was something that drew me in with his paintings. I've seen other artists attempt to do pictures in this very style, and promised myself I would do.
The initial idea was to draw my fursona in there somewhere, but as time passed, the character felt way too simplistic for a work so grand and important, so the whole thing was left laying on my computer, with just concepts of the background finished. Then however I saw "Guardians of the Galaxy" and was mesmerized by Groot, the treefolk alien in the movie. I have a thing for plants as anthropomorphic beings, but he was even more than that. I loved the movie, I loved Groot, and the idea came to me that I could make him the central figure of this. This made things easier, but I was so busy with college, that I did not do it. Then my laptop got broken, it had to go for a while, I was stuck on another laptop, and with none of my typical software, I used SAI to draw the lineart of Groot. And now that I have time off from work and could not do more work on my comic at the moment... I just finished this guy.
So let's see... Now we have December 2015, Guardians of the Galaxy came out August 2014 (in my place), and the whole idea to make something like Mucha.... I don't know, but this thing was in the works for over 2 years, AT LEAST.
... and it looks like crap, heh. Yeah, I missed the point. I guess Groot looks good, the background looks good... but they don't work together at all. Eh, I figured there was no way to save this, so I'm just posting it and hoping someone will like it.
