At long last!
Sorry for the extended hiatus. I won’t go into details or make excuses, but my son was born two months early, in October. As Lennon said, life is what happens when you’re making other plans — but hey, he’s healthy and thriving, and I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything. And now that I have a couple weeks off work for the holidays, I am finally catching up with comics and chores and breathing.

I mostly agree. Superiors who try to be everyone's friend lose respect and professionalism on all sides deteriorates. Even when I was working at Starbucks, when one was promoted one was moved to another store if at all possible so as not to have former coworkers as subordinates. Inevitability it leads to playing favorites and lowers morale.
Still, I tend to view authority like death and taxes; inevitable, perhaps, but to be avoided when possible.
