In the distance it looks good but in detail its rough.
I chose 5mm² (0,197inch²) per pixel. I used a paper with crossed lines every 5mm. Then transfered the pixels to the paper with the original sprite pic.
I took plywood and fasten the paper on the plywood. On every corner of the sprite i punktured it with a needle and with that the wood to.
Then i had only to make a line to every point in the wood, sawed out the sprite and finally painted both sides.
You can do it as well if you try.
