Here's another class of NPC's from Korsun, this time the guards that work under Vaergas and Griggs.

The local defense garrison force of Korsun tends to be undermanned, underfunded, and outgunned most times, yet they are the only non-militia force attempting to keep the sporadic settlements safe from bandit raids and violent crime.

The majority of the soldiers forming the garrison are from the Soldien agricultural world Wayshire, a world where almost no one owns a firearm and where violent incidents seldom ever occur; this means that Vaergas's troops lack the experience or proclivity for armed combat. Wayshire Soldiens also tend to share a strong resemblance to one another and traditionally come from large familial groups that share similar names, making them hard to distinguish from each other.

Resource shortages are also a common problem for the garrison, as there aren't many strategic or economic interests for the Soldiens on Korsun, so the garrison tends to be one of the last ones supplied, and will often be "skipped" if convoys are running behind schedule.

Given all this, it is understandable that Vaergas has been spending most of his time with logistics and basic training, despite his official prerogative being to run patrols and to stop the rampant "salvaging" of abandoned Soldien assets on planet. The guards are doing the best they can given the circumstances, but they have been given an impossible task with no resources to carry it out, this means that the entire troop may be "blacklisted" for incompetence in the near future through no fault of their own.
