I've probably read too many Grant Morrison books...
Oh well! That's issue 4! I've really enjoyed working on this issue, weird as it's all been. Honestly when I did the first issue of "False Start" I was just trying to tell a cute story and come to terms with being bi but...there were seeds there. After that first awkward little issue wrapped I thought "man, this is just like every other furry comic except they didn't graphically plow each other for the majority of the issue. I wonder what would happen if I just kept on it?"
One insane CEO, a very destroyed pair of underpants, a handful of dead robots, some super powered hijinks, thirty years of racial tensions, and here we are!
In space.
With a suddenly-adult blue child, a grey seal, and a deer. Also: our poor, poor protagonist.
Leon should've slept in, but that would've been very boring.

Well snap. Someone had the crazy idea to give a ten year old girl mind screw powers. Bone, you are just crazy. ;p
But yeah. Since this is a mindscape, I'm going to assume those are their spirit animals.
Trying to guess who is who is a nice mind game. On one hand, the gazelle/antelope is an herbivore while seals are predators. So that's point towards Leon being a gazelle and Sei being a seal.
On ther other hand, Meier is know for killing a lot of seals, so point towards Leon being a seal. ;p
Also, seals are creatures of the ice and Leon is an ice skater, so points towards Leon being a seal.
Oh, and don't forget neutral points. While what side they are standing on should be a factor, they are more apart of the picture here than other spirit animals. So in this case they are more behind Sei than they are on either side. Plus, that seal is looking at Leon rather excitedly, kind of like saying "Hey, that's me", while the gazelle is just standing there majestically like Sei. So all in all, position points are dismissable.
Other neural points, most species of gazelles and antelopes goth have horns. Males tend to be larger, but it could be female for Sei or an adolescent male to represent Leon's naivety.
But, yeah. Before this page I was holding out hopes that Leon's spirit animal would be a bat... what with the ears and him "homing in" on Simon without really knowing where he was. But seal or gazelle have interesting behavior implications as well. Gazelles/antelopes are known to be fast runners, able to out endure predators who are technically faster than them. And seals? They're just cool, but there is also the water element. I can honestly see sharks and seals "playing" together more than sharks and gazelles.
As for the powers... I'm actually going to go out on a limb that Leon has been a type of telepath all along, and Sei just happens to have the ability to piggy back on other people's powers. Sei is the female lead, after all, and copy cat powers are very powerful. As for telepathy for Leon... it might explain the spirit animals all about. It's not just artistic style, it's Leon's powers working and him not even knowing it. If he's had this power all his life he's probably even seen a shrink about it. I've been reading one quest about a character whose mental powers has been hiding behind "delusional parasitosis" all his life up until the moments of the story and... well great minds think alike. It's probably not true, but a rat can dream.
But yeah, so many new theories about powers just from this page, but I think I better hit "add reply". This comment is long enough I've had to take a bathroom break writing it, last thing I want to do is make it so long you need a bathroom break reading it.

Oh, so -this- is the moment Leon realizes he's way over his head. I blame the space seals. Yep, the seals. Not Sei turning into a full grown woman and telling him outright. Nope. The seals.
Sei looks awesome; gonna hope the next chapter sheds a bit more light on her though (and maybe exactly what's going on here). This looks really cool, either way!
