Probably the most fun piece we got to do for the Christmas concert was this piece. The title "Betelehemu" translates to "Bethlehem". This piece features no tuned instruments and instead just percussion and SATB choir as well as some "nature sounds" in the middle of the piece. The most magical moment here was that in the audience there was actually a Nigerian family in the audience and they were actually in tears hearing this song again after so long and came to tell us how wonderful it was. The room was just filled with energy during this piece. It was absolutely magical. It is probably the most fun I've ever had conducting as well. Enjoy!
Lyrics:
Awa yo, a ri Baba gb’ojule (We rejoice for we have a trustworthy father)
Awa yo, a ri Baba f’eyin ti (We rejoice for we have? a dependable father)
(repeat)
Ni bo labe Jesu? (Where was Jesus born)
Ni bo labe bisi? (Where was he born?)
(Repeat)
Betelehemu iluwa la, (Bethlehem, city of wonder)
Ni bo labe Baba o daju (That is where Father was born)
Inyi, inyi, furo (Praise, praise, be to Him)
Adupe fun o, jooni, (We thank you, today)
Baba olo reo (Gracious Father)
