Tho it's fun to come up with lore for Auracorns, such mythology should be taken with a grain of salt, and not all lore has to be followed by Auracorn owners.

But in any case, here's the legend of how Auracorns came to be~!
Once upon a time, long ago before even your great, great, great ancestors were born, Auracorns were not as they are now. In their beginnings, they were simple beasts, with neither gem nor horn nor magic of their own, frolicking and grazing wherever they saw fit, living wild and free in forests and fields untouched by civilization. One day however, the innocent eyes of these untamed creatures witnessed the arrival of the first of man. Primitive like themselves, though men were also smart, and saw the Auracorns as fresh meat ripe for picking. Auracorns, having never known any true danger, were no match for the humans and were overcome easily. The few who survived fled for their lives, crying out in terror, but humans soon cornered and took their lives as well. Before long not a single Auracorn was left alive, and the land grew bare littered with their bones, as tho its very soul had been taken. The sorrow felt by the land itself manifested then, taking the form of a bright, glowing Auracorn with wings and jewel projecting a divine horn of light. She was the Guardian Mother of the Auracorns, and as she looked upon the fallen bodies of her children, she wept and was filled with heartache. Using her might, she bid her fallen kin to rise again anew, soul-blessing a few to become Guardians themselves of their kind to protect them. All Auracorns that rose again too were blessed, gaining the very same gems and horns as their Guardian Mother, however that was not all she blessed them with, for fearing man would slay her children again, she gave them new forms as well to take, so that humans would not readily kill them if they were on the same level.
As the new race of Auracorns rose, they came upon the humans, who had begun to starve without their prey, and though the humans were frightened of the newcomers, the Auracorns assured them they sought not vengeance or to harm them. In fact in a show of peace, the Auracorns helped the humans heal the land and learn to plant and grow food, and the Guardian Mother was joyous for she sought not war nor did she begrudge the humans. However, as it stood, not all Auracorns felt humans deserved their forgiveness, nor all the new Guardians either. Many guardians begged the Guardian Mother to punish the humans, but she refuse. Angered at her soft heart, the Guardians who despised humans shunned the Guardian Mother and refused their humanoid forms, and left the land, with their followers in tow. The Guardian Mother regretted their decision, but would not force them to stay, for they had wills of their own. And thus from then on, Auracorns stood beside man as an equal, with magic of their own. Tho to this day not all humans accept Auracorns, nor do all Auracorns accept man.
