It's a nice and easy way to make textures on watercolor. You just sprinkle some salt over a freshly colored area and let it dry. The salt soaks up some of the color and makes nice patterns like this https://img0.etsystatic.com/000/0/6......309984458.jpg Then you just brush off the salt.
You don't see it very clearly in my painting but there are some traces of it in the blue area in the bottom left :D
