This is part of a series of themed commissions from this year's Midwest FurFest. Months ago at Anthrocon, I was struck with a wave of creative inspiration which led me to devise a team of super sexy sorceresses who wield both magic and technology with equal skill. To introduce them, I opted to have each of them drawn by a different artist at the convention. I present the Tech Sorceresses, Aurora Coven.
Every team needs an operator, and Oasis provides that service in a way few might expect. Having long since been relegated to a tube filled with saline fluid, she uses her powerful telepathic abilities to mentally project herself across long distances. She can easily maintain contact with the Coven while they're out in the field, and can relay information to them as needed based on what she senses around them. More than that, she can even turn those projections into a literal telekinetic body that can interact in person with those unable to reach her secure suspension chamber. From her position, she can also mentally tap into the order's online network, acting as a living computer. In spite of her rather off-putting appearance, she is actually rather friendly even if she has no way of properly expressing herself. The order's high council is long used to her many experimental ideas; the reformation of Aurora Coven was completely her idea. Though it was met with harsh retribution by others (more on that in a future post), she managed to convince the councilors to entertain just one last crazy idea of hers, and in return, she would leave the council herself to join the newly-formed Coven. It is believed that her idea was agreed upon simply so that the council would no longer have to keep hearing her "crazy ideas." Many among the Tech Sorceress order wonder why she continues to be wired into a "people jar" since that sort of life-saving suspension fell out of practice decades ago. However, it's highly likely that this is a testament to how long she's been alive. Order records mention her as far back as over a hundred years ago, yet, mysteriously, she doesn't appear to be very old...
I opted to have the Dreamkeepers crew take on Oasis' eerie appearance, and David nailed her look perfectly. Equal parts alluring and intimidating, I remember Liz mentioning they could almost make out a steady glow from the tube against a sheer dark background as she was being drawn, making me tempted to try and color this sometime in the future.
