An older dragon decided to take its apprentice out for some training in the fields. It's important for young dragons to learn how to control their magic for flying early on since being able to hover high in the sky can save them from danger. Flying without wings is more difficult, so they spend more time training to fly than dragons who have wings.

Eastern dragons are the only dragons that can fly without wings. They usually hover in the air because their bodies aren’t built to do much else. They all have some type of magic and tend to rely heavily on their magical abilities to survive. The species that they are based on tend to be mammals, but they can be based on other animal groups.
